This is a topic that has had me puzzled for quite some time. The amount of people who jump from one MLM business opportunity to the next is staggering. Each time they are switching companies they think … this is it! this is the one that is going to change my life. They believe all the hype about pre-launches and how the latest wonder juice or life saving vitamins are going to solve all their problems and make them successful.

Well, I hate to be the one to say it…. but no matter what product or business you are promoting – unless you becoming educated in marketing and learn how to successfully drive traffic and brand yourself as the leader  then nothing is going to change. People are desperate for leadership and really are just looking for a solution, someone who can show them how to be successful. Products are not the answer here.

Of course, it makes sense to be involved with a company of high integrity and one that has products of high value, but at the end of the day it all really boils down to how you position yourself. In order to become successful in this industry you must increase your value in the marketplace and position yourself as the leader. No one really cares about the compensation plan, the products or replicated website  , all they really want to know is what steps do I need to take in order to get from A to B.

Becoming a skilled marketer is not something that you acquire overnight, its an ongoing and constant learning process and you must ensure if you truly want long term success that you are continually educating yourself and learning from the best.  Delivering flyers, posting signs on posts and holding home parties is not a marketing education , its an amateurs game and provides the distributor with nothing of value if they choose to move on and do something else. You are only as good as you company training and methods that are specific to your company.

One of the biggest frustrations or mistakes people make in having an online business is generating traffic to their websites.  There is no point having a fancy looking website that just sits there with no traffic.  The problem also lies within a  large proportion of home businesses is that they do not teach you effective marketing strategies and instead lead you to believe that sending offline traffic to a replicated website will build your business.

2)  Brand Yourself - Learn to become a leader. Give value and position yourself as a leader with personal branding

3) Learn copywriting – This skill is invaluable in order for you to learn how to use words that get people to take action.

4) Use Social Media – Use sites like Facebook, You Tube and Twitter to help create your online presence. Do no spam people with your opportunity or pitch people, learn to be yourself and attract people to get to know you.

5) Build Your Own List - This is so important that you use an autoresponder service that allows you to own your own list that you can market to and not filtering your traffic to a system.

6) Autoresponder Marketing - Personalise your autoresponders and build a relationship with your list by weaving your story and your message into your messages.

7) Google Adwords PPC - Do whatever you have to , to learn and master Google Adwords. You definetely need to be learning from the best to master this but when you do it can create six figures a month.

Master One Method at a Time - You have heard the saying “Jack of all trades – master of none” . Focus on one lead generation method until you master it before you move on. Dont try and learn everything at once.

9) Keyword Research - Know your target market first, do your keyword research and build your content, articles, videos etc all around those keywords.

10) Mindset – To get different results you need to become a different person. In my opinion midset comes before skill.

Ok. So you have started a new business and you are given a wide range of marketing strategies to test to go and market your business. Now, if you are anything like me when I first started in internet marketing, you are feeling completely overwhelmed and you are not sure which strategies to focus on so you dabble in them all.

To make things worse you are asking yourself  ”Why I am I working so hard and not getting results”?

The answer is simple you cant be a jack of all trades – as the saying goes or you will be a master of none. Some great words of wisdom I heard once from one of my mentors Mike Dillard was that to succeed in internet marketing and really make alot of money you have to focus on one marketing strategy and master it.

It’s so easy to do someting for a few weeks and then move onto something else without really ever achieving any results from the first strategy you were implementing because you never saw it through.  Find a method that you really think you like and then do it to death, keep working at it until you can confidently say you understand it and its working for you. Wether this is online or offline – doesnt really matter as long as you do it until you own it.

Once you master one method then you can move onto something else and start adding that into your marketing. There will be a point in your business where you cant possibly manage everything and do it well. How do you think all the top earning marketers do it? They dont have time to be tweeting and writing articles, answering emails, answering the phone, managing their PPC accounts and have a life… Outsourcing is becoming increasingly popular and I do in fact have my own virtual assistant to help with follow up phone calls and some social media strategies.

My business started to take off when I could focus on the things that I do best and focused on activities that were going to produce results. Outsourcing is smart for a busy marketer, but not advised until you have learnt to do the things yourself. You cant possibly train someone else to do a job for you when you havnt done it yourself.

About 12 months ago I had no clue about outsourcing or marketing but it sure does make a difference when you align yourself with a community of entrepreneurs who are sharing and teaching strategies that not only leverage your time but ultimately make you more money.

To Your Success

It’s really interesting as to what the smallest difference is between being successful or not. How many people want to become professional sports people or sports stars or an entrepreneur and multi-millionaires? Alot of people but only a certain number of people have the discipline, the drive and passion to truly succeed.

Some days you wake up and you really just dont feel like committing to your plan, your routine or daily tasks, but its the person who tells themselves that they must and do it anyway that has the determination and focus to do whatever it takes.

So you are researching and reading and poking and prodding, trying to find the right online business for you. Perhaps you are already in a business and not making a profit  - either way I am going to share some information on what to look for in an online business and what you must do to turn it into a profitable internet business.

Most people are under the illusion that they need to market a product that they are passionate about and so most people get involved in nutritional products that increase energy, lose weight and basically are health related.  Then they become increasingly aware, as I  did, that its an extremely competitive marketplace that is saturated and they have no idea how to find their niche and stand out from the crowd.

The most important thing when searching for an internet business is to make sure that you get coaching and training on how to market online and preferably from people who are getting results and are able to adapt to the ever changing nature of the internet. You must have access to a community of internet marketing experts who are willing to share with you the exact methods they are using to get results.

Once you have the right marketing training, then its up to you to put in place a plan that is going to see you produce results.  You are not going to get great results if you are inconsistent with your activites and  you only spend a few hours a week dabbling in marketing. Some of the best entrepreneurs I know have a daily shcedule where they actually manage their time in hourly slots and make sure they are committing to the activities that get results and limit their time to answering emails and things that dont produce income. I myself, like to have a whiteboard and write down a list of things I need to achieve for the day. I have 2 toddlers at home, so a strict schedule does not work for me – you have to do what works for you and make sure you achieve what you need to every day.

When you combine this strategy of a complete internet marketing education, a daily schedule of income producing activites and also daily visualising your results and working on yourself – that is the key to a profitable internet business.

This is actually something that very few MLM companies ever really train you on. In the eyes of most MLM companies EVERYONE is your target market. Quite frankly, that is ridiculous. Do you really believe that everyone you know would be great as an entrepreneur or have the persistence and drive to build a real long term business.

This type of thinking is aimed at attracting the get rich quick mentality people and I certainly know that when I was building a traditional MLM business, the last people I wanted to recruit into my business were my friends and family. I dont think there would be more than 1 or 2 people I knew that even had any drive or aspirations for a better life or bigger dreams. Most people that you are surrounded with are constrained to thinking that circumstances are what control you.

Here is an idea that was discussed in our training for my primary company on how to attract and find your target market. Write down exactly who you would want to train as an up and coming entrepreneur, the strenghths, weaknesses, passions, motivations and drive. It is more than likely that you will come up with a list that typically explains who you are – and that is a good thing, because how much easier is it going to be to market to your target audience if you already know how they think and why.

You also need to learn to completely be yourself and be transparent in your marketing as the more transparent you are, the more you will attract like minded people to you. You must keep it real! Prospects need to be able to connect with you and relate to you and the way you do this is to be yourself.

Contrary to the beliefs of alot of MLM companies, I believe in filtering out prospects rather than signing up everyone with a pulse. Thankfully the marketing system I uses has an application process (which also requires a small fee) because it really helps to sort out the tyre kickers from a serious entrepreneur who is willing to invest time and money into a business. Building a business is nothing like having a job and I love the fact now that I am not spending hours on the phone with dead beat leads explaining why a business is different from a job and that “yes” you are going to have to have some capital and invest time into a succesful business.

Forget Cousin Mary and Grandma Joan, they are not going to be of any use to you in building a business (they might feel sorry for you and buy some products), but you must learn to qualify your potential prospects and filter out the wanna be get rich quick seekers.

No matter wether you are a network marketer, an affiliate marketer , a home business owner or Online Marketer – everyone is in it to make money. One of the luxuries of making good money is being able to afford certain luxuries in life. My marketing system has just opened up the most incredible opportunity for all people in the above categories including anyone who simply just wants to make money to win a 2009 BMW 335i coupe. I am sure this post will ruffle some feathers, but I can assure you that is not the intention. This is based on my experience and results.  In today’s economy many people are turning to the internet in search of a way to increase their income and escape the fall out of the recession. And, so alot of people are turning to MLM or Direct Sales (Top Tier) and both can be incredibly rewarding but I am going to share why to avoid MLM if you want to make a serious income.

After my first child was born I got started in an MLM company ( an extremely well known MLM) and I was a huge lover of the products and I had fantastic results using the products. So, I was convinced that this would be easy and all I had to do was follow the plan and sponsor more people to do the same. What I discovered after 4 years of working hours on the phone and sacrificing everything including my family time was that duplicating my efforts was a huge task. In fact the attrition rate was extremely disheartening at around 90% within their first 90 days. I didnt understand – why did people not have the same drive and determination as me?

MLM is a business model based on the duplication of your downline and the volume that your downline produces. So, for a hard working person no matter how hard you work your income still is determined by the efforts of others (of which you have no control over how much effort they put in). Since the internet era the chances of someone sticking to one company has become even less because all they have to do is look on the internet and be enticed by an appealing ad promising more money and a better product and off they go  - chasing the next best thing.

A Top Tier Direct Sales company on the other hand is a business model that rewards the person doing the work for their efforts. Its generally a company where you market high end products to a much higher caliber of people who are willing to invest time and money into a business. Most top tier companies offer products that pay $1000 and up plus commmissions and you get paid first , even before the company.  If you are positioned right within a top tier company you can easily make $10K a month from just a handful of customers.

No matter what business you decide to work there is still NO such thing as get rich quick. You have to work harder on yourself than anything else and learn how to effectively market online. If you are not an effective online marketer and have access to a complete online marketing education , then your options are to build your business offline by recruiting all your friends and family, cold calling thousands of leads and becoming a walking , talking billboard.

It was an easy transition for me to make the decision to move my skills and energy into a Top Tier company where I could finally be rewarded for my own efforts. MLM is still a business that requires masses of numbers to work and unfortunately there just arent enough entrepreneurs in the world to make it work. I can say without a doubt that recruiting your next door neighbours hairdresser and cousin isnt going to make you rich.
